Yiddish Word of the Day:

Libe

Pronunciation : Lee-bey
Definition: love.
Example Sentence: A drop of libe sometimes brings a sea of tears.

Some Fun Thoughts:

I wrote a post yesterday and forgot to schedule send, so you get that word tomorrow! Mazel Tov!

Shalom and happy Tu B’av, the Jewish Day of Love (hence the word choice today). The holiday is celebrated every year on the 15th Day of the month of Av. (For those that don’t know, the Jewish calendar is not the same as the Gregorian that we use today. It is based on the Lunar year. For more info click here.)

It had some kind of slightly weird Second Temple period vibes as a post-biblical day of joy, serving as a matchmaking day for unmarried women, which is nice, but not everyone needs to be married. In its modern incarnation, it is gradually becoming a Hebrew-Jewish Day of Love, slightly resembling Valentine’s Day in English-speaking countries.

So today, let me be your excuse to call someone you love and tell them. Send them chocolates or flowers or ruggelach. Maybe make some breakfast in bed. But be sure to take some time today to show a little libe to those important people in your life (and maybe go the extra mile and share some libe with those you don’t know who need it). At any rate, I am sending you all libe on this Tuesday morning.

See you tomorrow!
