Yiddish Word of the Day:
Meshuggeneh
Pronunciation : me·shug·gen·eh
Definition: crazy, ridiculous, insane.
Example Sentence: He must be meshuggeneh to think he can wear that getup to a funeral.
Some Fun Thoughts:
Meshuggeneh, like so many Yiddish words, just makes the English language a little more fun and colorful. The words derives from meshuge, an adjective that is synonymous with crazy or foolish. English speakers have used the adjective form, meshuga or meshugge, to mean "foolish" since the late 1800s. There is even a great word for silly or foolish folk that’s been used since the 1800s: meshuggeners. For example, that person wearing that outfit to the funeral must be a meshuggener.
I like this word to add a little light into my life, but then again, I’m meshuggeneh.
